Book Review: Long Story Short by Serena Kaylor
by The Book Pup on June 12, 2026
My Summary:
Beatrice Quinn is a genius heading to Oxford at the age of only 16. But her parents aren't convinced she's up to it. Sent to a summer theater camp, being brilliant doesn't prepare her for stage fright her annoying partner Nik, who challenges her at every turn.
As Beatrice learns to navigate new experiences, push past her anxiety, and stand up for herself, she discovers that growth happens outside your comfort zone—and sometimes the person who irritates you most is exactly who you need.
My Review
I absolutely LOVED Long Story Short and this book holds such a special place in my heart! 🌸💕📚
Thankfully, that didn't happen at all! 🎉✨ I still loved every single page! This reread confirmed that Long Story Short is just as wonderful as I remembered, maybe even more so now that I have more reading experience to compare it to. 🦉💕
Beatrice isn't a perfect, fearless heroine. 🦋💫 She's smart but insecure in new environments. She can stand her ground but also second-guesses herself. She's capable but learning. That authenticity is what makes her such a compelling protagonist! 🌲✨
What I love is how Beatrice maintains her backbone while talking to Nik even when she's feeling anxious or uncertain. 🐱💪 She doesn't let him steamroll her just because he's confident and brilliant. She pushes back, argues her points, and refuses to be intimidated. That strength while still being realistically anxious is so well-balanced! 🌙💚
The romance development is perfection! 💚🔥 The enemies-to-lovers progression feels natural and well-paced. Kaylor gives them time to genuinely connect beyond just attraction. By the time they get together, you believe in their relationship completely! 🌸💫
Kaylor respects her readers by giving us proper closure. 🦉💚 After investing in these characters and their journey, we get the payoff we deserve. That's so satisfying and honestly refreshing! 🌙🦋
This book is EVERYTHING to me. 🌸📚 It introduced me to pure romance as a genre, it has a protagonist I deeply relate to, it features one of my favorite romantic dynamics, and it delivers on every promise it makes. 🐱💕
The fact that it holds up on reread—maybe even better than the first time—proves how well-crafted it is. 🦊✨ Good books get better when you know what's coming because you can appreciate all the subtle groundwork the author laid. 🌲💫
5/5 pawprints 🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾 (but really 1000/5 in my soul! 💚🌸✨)

P.S. This book will forever hold a special place in my heart as the one that showed me romance-only books can be INCREDIBLE! Thank you, Serena Kaylor! 🦊💚📚
P.P.S. If you've been nervous about rereading a book you loved—DO IT. Sometimes they're even better the second time around! 🌙✨🦉
P.P.P.S. Beatrice and Nik's banter lives rent-free in my head. That's how good it is! 💕🔥🐱
