February Reading Challenge: Love Stories (Beyond Romance) Edition 💕📚

by The Book Pup on February 4, 2026

February is here - the month of love, chocolate, pink everything, and... reading pressure to only pick up romance novels?

Not here. Not this year.

Don't get me wrong, I love a good romance (and we'll definitely celebrate those this month!). But February is about MORE than romantic love. It's about friendship, family, self-love, found families, and all the ways people connect and care for each other.

This month's challenge celebrates LOVE in all its forms - romantic, platonic, familial, self-directed, and everything in between. Because the best stories aren't just about finding "the one" - they're about finding your people, finding yourself, and finding what makes life worth living.

The February "Love Stories" Challenge

Four weeks, four types of love to explore. Pick the challenges that speak to your heart!

Week 1: "Romantic Love" (Feb 1-7)

Yes, we're starting with the obvious one - but let's do it right!

💘 Challenge 1: Read a romance that isn't your usual romance subgenre Love contemporary rom-coms? Try historical romance. Always read fantasy romance? Try contemporary. Mix it up!

💕 Challenge 2: Read a book where romance is important but not the main plot Fantasy with a romantic subplot. Contemporary about life goals with a side of romance. Stories where love enhances but doesn't define the plot.

Week 2: "Friendship & Found Family" (Feb 8-14)

The most underrated love stories!

👯 Challenge 3: Read a book with an epic friendship at its core Platonic soulmates, ride-or-die besties, friendships that save the world. Celebrate non-romantic love.

🏠 Challenge 4: Read a found family story Chosen families, misfit groups becoming each other's home, bonds stronger than blood. These hit different.

Week 3: "Family & Self-Love" (Feb 15-21)

The foundations of who we are

🪞 Challenge 5: Read a book about self-discovery and self-acceptance Characters learning to love themselves, identity journeys, finding your place in the world.

💪 Challenge 6: Read a book where the protagonist's relationship with themselves is central Self-worth arcs, healing from trauma, learning who you are and being okay with that.

Week 4: "Love in All Forms" (Feb 22-29)

Celebrating every kind of connection

📖 Challenge 7: Read a love letter to something (books, places, passions) Stories about loving art, music, books, places, hobbies. Passion for things that give life meaning.

💝 Challenge 8: Read something that makes YOUR heart happy Whatever book brings you joy. Pure self-indulgent reading because you deserve it.

A February Reading Love Letter

February isn't just about romantic love - it's about celebrating all the ways we connect, care, and belong.

It's about recognizing that the friend who shows up at 2 AM is a love story. The sibling who understands you without words is a love story. The found family that becomes home is a love story. Learning to love yourself is a love story.

Books show us every kind of love - messy, complicated, beautiful, healing, challenging, transforming. They remind us we're not alone in any of it.

So this February, read love stories in all their forms. Read about connections that matter. Read about belonging and becoming. Read what makes your heart feel full.

You deserve stories that celebrate every kind of love - including the love you have for reading itself.

What love story will you read this February? Tell me in the comments - I want to know what makes your heart happy!

Happy reading, and may your February be filled with stories that remind you what matters most. 💕
